Compress PDF — Reduce File Size and Keep Text Selectable

Reduce PDF size with three honest modes: lossless clean-up, image optimization that keeps text selectable, or opt-in strong compression.

Lossless removes unused data and duplicate pictures. Optimize images downsamples pictures above 200 DPI to 150 DPI. Strong goes to 110 DPI. Text, fonts and vector graphics are never changed unless you tick flatten.

What is Compress PDF?

Compress PDF makes PDF files smaller without silently destroying them. Lossless mode optimizes only the file structure — unused objects, duplicate pictures, better stream compression — so pages are unchanged. Optimize images downsamples pictures shown above 200 DPI to 150 DPI and re-encodes photos, while text, fonts and vector graphics stay exactly as they were. Strong goes further, and turning whole pages into images happens only if you tick the flatten option. If a file can't get smaller, your original comes back unchanged.

Compress PDF files honestly. Lossless mode removes unused objects and duplicate images without touching a single page. Optimize images downsamples photos above 200 DPI to 150 DPI while text, fonts and vector graphics stay exactly as they were. Strong mode goes smaller still, and flattening pages into images is only done if you tick it. If a file can't be made smaller, you get your original back.

How it works

  1. Choose a PDF (up to 50 MB). It is uploaded over HTTPS, compressed and deleted within 24 hours.
  2. Pick Lossless (structure only), Optimize images (text stays selectable) or Strong (pages become images — only if you tick the box).
  3. Compare the original and new size, then download. If it can't be made smaller you keep the original.

FAQ

Will text stay selectable?

Yes in Lossless and Optimize images — only pictures are re-encoded. Strong mode turns every page into an image, so text is no longer selectable; you must confirm it.

Why didn't my PDF get smaller?

Text-only or already optimized PDFs have little to remove. You get your original back rather than a bigger file.

Password-protected PDFs?

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF (in your browser), then compress. Passwords are never sent to the server.

Is my PDF stored?

Only temporarily for processing; files are deleted within 24 hours.

Which mode should I choose?

Optimize images for most PDFs. Lossless when nothing visible may change. Strong for the smallest file while keeping text; tick flatten only if size matters more than text.

How much smaller will it get?

Photo-heavy and scanned PDFs often shrink by 80–95%; text-only PDFs shrink little because there is nothing heavy to remove.
